In November 2018, we introduced our collaboration with one of the most influential industrial designers of the past decades. Together with Dieter Rams we had revisited one of his designs from the 1960s that was never published: the women’s handbag 931.
Having worked in the field of product design for more than 40 years, Dieter Rams is still highly topical. With missionary zeal, he continues to claim to this day that the correct understanding of design can help create a better world.
In consultation with Dieter Rams, we have now created a new colour version of the 931 bag: a smooth khaki green calfskin leather which was adapted from his 620 Chair Programme, hand-made by the British furniture company Vitsœ since 1962.
The leather, which is a byproduct of the meat industry, is sourced from animals raised in Germany and the neighbouring Netherlands. It is fully traceable back to the farm, it is ECO2L and REACH certified, and is produced CO2 neutral. The processing German tannery is awarded with the gold standard rating of the international environmental certification body LWG Leather Working Group.
